    AFC Chair

The classic sled school chair, originally designed for children in five different sizes, was part of our everyday life. Its simple form and sturdy build made it a reliable presence in classrooms across Europe.

We revisited this design with the aim of adapting it for contemporary, living spaces and public areas. Our version adopts a more precise, refined language with a clear, rectilinear character, built in solid beech with a strong focus on detail and a slim yet sturdy construction. The result blends effortlessly into a variety of interiors, adding a subtle, playful touch while maintaining its elegance.

We were asked to design outdoor benches for a restaurant in Düsseldorf (GER). After some evaluation we came up with a sturdy design made from galvanized steel. Super easy to build and stable, slim and elegant.

After the success of the benches we were asked to develop additional counterchairs.

    Frame Series

In the early 2000s, the technique of „welding wood“ was discovered. Through thermal influence, solid wood can be bonded by activating the lignin within it, offering great potential for furniture construction.

For this small family of storage furniture, we used a nail gun loaded with wooden nails. The force and speed at which the wooden nail is driven into the material generates heat, causing the lignin to soften and weld the parts together seamlessly.

    Outdoor Chair

    With Joel Seele

Two bended tubes, one lasercut sheet of metal. This chair ist as manimalistic as it could be. Inspired by simple chairs in corsika we tested the boundaries of a stable, material saving and simple construction, without losing any comfort or visual elegance.

    Bench

A simple folded seat achieves extreme
stability through its folding design. This straightforward deformation in the longitudinal direction eliminates the need for a substructure. Two frame elements on the outer sides form the connection to the legs, which are made of wooden tubes and simply plugged in, and tightened with screws. As a result, the bench can be shipped flat. Elegant yet simple, refined yet modest.

    Hulot

Half of all bulky waste in Germany consists of furniture that could still be used. Currently we are talking about nearly 1.7 million tons, and the amount has been rising during the COVID pandemic.

A new concept for the circular use of furniture hands producers the long-term responsibility for products and puts them in charge of repairs and refurbishing. Thus, the relationship between users, producers and the objects as such undergoes a fundamental change, leading to a sustainable use in which a product will not end up in the garbage once it has fulfilled its first function.

This modular system shows how a new level of durability can be attained as the pieces of furniture can always be adapted and repaired. If requirements change, the furniture can easily be transformed as well: A chair becomes a table becomes a children’s high chair becomes a chair again. It is all based on an innovative design which relies on a selection of similar pieces that can be assembled or disassembled according to need. The design makes use of three innocuous materials which either store CO2, are recyclable or consist of recycled materials to begin with. Therefore, the specific design not only stresses sustainable parameters but also demonstrates a new attitude to product development as such, as expressed in this scenario of circular use.

    NEW GRID

This shelf system represents an innovative approach to furniture development. To be truly sustainable, Some furniture must be capable of adapting and reacting to changing environments.
Producing items from ecologically acceptable materials is only the first step.

This shelf is built without screws, tolerates wear and tear nicely, and can be repaired. It can easily be adjusted or expanded in any direction at any time. It consists of only four components. Its packaging turns into shelves and is, therefore, an integral part of the design.

    Shelf DS

    with Eric Geißler

We were asked by MAGAZIN to take a look at the Container DS and to analyse the sustaibability of this specific product. The Container was designed by Kuno Nüssli and works as an hommage to the well known shipping container.

After a detailed research of the components and a visit in the factory, we came up with a map, in which all stations of the production and lifespan of the container are held together and are easy comparable. This map shows also the CO2 emmissions and energy that is necessary to produce this container.

The second step was to transform our new knowledge into a new interpretation of the Container. We dismounted the container and assembled a new furniture piece with all parts of the Container DS.

    Filou

Filou is a wirechair that supports dynamic sitting. The height and depth of the seat is optimized to work concentrated. The skid in the front allows to lean forward. The straight character of the wire structure, which ist assembled by three simple parts, is completed by the graphic caracter of the paracord covered seat.

    A–Chair

The first chair I can remember is the dining chair of my grandparents. This Chair was part of an konvolut of really minimalistic designed danish wooden chairs, all of them were highly elegant and appeared in a very simple way. All of the connetions were comprehensible and not hidden or concealed. I thought that this were a nice touch to show how a chair is made, and how it is connected.
While designing this chair I always had this things in mind and ended up with a very elegant and simple chair. I also wanted to add some extra features and made it as lightweight as possible and with the minimum amount of material as needed. The chair is also stackable and made out of only one material.

    Ceramic

I were commissioned to design a giveaway for my former university in Wismar. Inspired by its location on the Baltic coast and its proximity to traditional regatta waters, I developed a cup that draws on the character of historic sailor’s mugs.

Its broad, flared base prevents the cup from tipping during rough conditions at sea  a functional detail that gives the object its distinctive stance. The widened foot also offers a natural place to carry the university’s name.
